Health and Population Minister Pradeep Poudel has proposed increasing the coverage amount of health insurance to 500,000 rupees. During a press conference at the ministry on Sunday, Minister Poudel advocated for raising the current insurance coverage limit to this new amount.
He outlined plans to secure funding for this increase through various measures, including imposing a sugar tax on certain food items, expanding the mother protection program, and covering treatment costs for eight specific diseases currently funded by the government.
Minister Poudel emphasized the need to streamline health insurance services into a single, accessible platform.
Currently, 28 percent of the population is covered by health insurance, but the rate of renewals has seen a decline.
